How we started
Our founder, Kathryn Grooms, had the vision to start a psychotherapy practice with a culture where awareness thrives and difference is celebrated for both therapists and clients.
This vision started when Kathryn was a social worker in the 90's in Philadelphia, working with individuals living with HIV/AIDS and members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Through her work in harm reduction and AIDS activism, Kathryn bore witness to the transformative impact of individuals being cared for with respect and attention to their entire experience, and not simply the "issue" that brought them into treatment. This experience ignited Kathryn's passion for healing, and her desire to create a psychotherapy practice that fosters this sort of care.
This is how Steady NYC was born.
At SteadyNYC, we believe we all have blind spots and internalized phobias and that we must all commit to doing the very best we can to pay attention to those and actively practice acts that challenge racism, sexism, sizeism, ableism, homophobia and discrimination and intolerance of all kinds.
SteadyNYC is a practice that embodies and encourages moving steadily forward, building slowly, developing along the way and being willing to listen, learn and grow. Here at Steady NYC, we are cultivating a diverse community of highly-skilled and talented therapists and Kathryn is grateful for each therapist who joins her in this mission and considers it an honor to help every client navigate their own unique journey of self-discovery and emotional healing.
